A police inspector is facing the sack after allegedly deceiving friends and colleagues into lending him thousands of pounds to pay off huge gambling debts.
Jon Percival, a Tactical Aid Unit officer, is accused of concealing the true extent of his financial crisis – being more than £100,000 in debt – when he repeatedly asked them for loans which totalled more than £47,000 and which he was unable to repay.
He is accused of securing a loan against a car lent to him by a friend. who also lent him money, and of misleading bosses on GMP vetting forms when asked if he had any financial difficulties.
