SALEM, Oregon State Sen. Mark Hass (D-Beaverton) is proposing restructuring business taxes in Oregon. The co-chairman of the Joint Committee on Tax Reform is proposing that the corporate income tax be changed to a gross receipts tax on income of $5 million or higher. Its estimated that change will bring in an additional $300 million.
State Rep. Greg Barreto (R-Cove) wonders who will be paying that additional money.
Some businesses will get hurt from it, some will benefit, he said. Some of the larger corporations Intel, Nike say they want it because it cuts the amount of taxes that they have to pay.
