Third-generation family baker Mias has been put into administration, casting a cloud over about 150 jobs.
Administrators from WA Insolvency Solutions were put into Canning Vale-based Mias Bakery and its associated milling business, West Coast Milling in Welshpool, on Tuesday by the companies sole director, Conrad Mias.
Both businesses are continuing to trade with the support of suppliers and customers as the administrators explore a rescue.
Mias has been baking preservative-free, sliced and continental bread since it was founded by Mr Mias grandparents in Victoria Park in 1950.
Joint administrator Kim Strickland said the bakery appeared to be a victim of a bread price war fuelled by competition between the big supermarket chains.
