Maseru – Lesotho’s economy was slowly turning around following a slump caused by the 1998 political uprising, and the government was predicting a growth rate of about one or two percent, Finance Minister Kelebone Maope said on Monday.
“There is already some economic activity beginning to occur, and I believe that by this time next year we are going to be very active,” he said.
“I am quite optimistic.”
The government launched a four-pronged approach to give the economy a new lease of life. This included steps to boost the capacity of various economic sectors to perform at their best.
Construction of infrastructure, including a R54-million main road, was slowly taking off.
