Retirees from St. Joseph’s, Fatima hospitals blame Catholic Diocese after fund is declared insolvent
PROVIDENCE, R.I. About 100 St. Joseph’s and Our Lady of Fatima Hospital retirees marched in front of Superior Court and the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul Wednesday morning, protesting a legal effort to cut their pensions by as much as 40 percent.
The vast majority of marchers were elderly women, many calling themselves life-long Catholics who said their finances and faith in the church had been shaken by the insolvency of the fund that was supposed to pay their pensions.
