Two Chinese nationals were yesterday tried at Phnom Penh Municipal Court over their involvement in kidnapping three fellow nationals to extort money from their families over unpaid gambling debts.
Presiding judge Seng Leang identified the accused as Ding Chunyaun, 55, the owner of the Blue Casino in Poipet City and Zhang Qian Giang, 34.
Mr Leang said the pair were arrested on March 5 after national military police raided a rented apartment in Poipet city.
According to a police report, the accused lent money to the victims to allow them to continue gambling at their casino and then kidnapped them after they failed to pay their debts.
Victims Zhun Xiao Liang borrowed $770,000, Zhan Qian Qiang $300,000, and Liu Junshen $150,000.
