A young man turned to shoplifting in an attempt to pay off his mounting gambling debts, a court heard.
Martin Sweeney (22) planned to sell the cosmetics he stole, but he was caught red-handed by security staff as he left a south Dublin pharmacy.
Judge Anne Watkin ordered a probation report and adjourned sentencing to next January. The defendant, of The Laurels, Bluebell Avenue in Bluebell, admitted before Dun Laoghaire District Court to stealing cosmetics worth 267.
The shoplifting took place at McCabe’s Pharmacy in Dundrum Town Centre in February.
