WILLEMSTAD – Another one bites the dust. This time its the operator of the former Howard Johnson Hotel in downtown Otrabanda, EMC City Hotel. It has been declared bankrupt.
The bankruptcy has been requested by the owner of the building where the hotel and a casino are located, namely Emmazicht nv. The casino has been closed since May under the supervision of the Gaming Control Board (GCB), partly because the hotel has too few rooms and is actually not eligible for a casino license.
The hotel was in financial trouble because more than half of the rooms were not usable due to overdue maintenance, according to Enrica Janine Eustatia-Van Ierland, Director of the EM City Hotel.
