New Norcias Benedictine monks are seeking to sever links to one of Perths best known artisanal bakers after the collapse of the company behind New Norcia Bakeries.
It is understood the monks have asked for the return of the New Norcia name held under license by New Norcia Bakeries owners from the Benedictine community for the past 25 years.
New Norcia Bakeries current owner, Mias Group, was put into liquidation by its shareholders 10 days ago after failed efforts to sell the business, which comprises three bakery cafes in Mt Hawthorn, Claremont and Subiaco, and a wholesale bakery in Malaga.
The retail outlets sell bread, cakes and biscuits, with the Malaga outlet supplying bread to Coles and IGA supermarkets, as well as independent stores.
