Popular Auckland eatery SPQR has gone into liquidation amid tough economic conditions in the hospitality sector.
The iconic restaurant opened its doors on Ponsonby Rd in 1992.
SPQR went into voluntary liquidation yesterday following a shareholders’ decision, co-liquidator Steve Lawrence confirmed to 1News.
The company is insolvent, he said.
The extent of its debts would be made public in a liquidators report within five days.

Lawrence said it was a tough environment for hospitality with the economic downturn following the ongoing effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Chapel Bar and Bistro, also in Ponsonby, also closed up earlier this month.
