Darts icon Jocky Wilson has long been remembered as one of the sport’s most colourful characters. However, his life came to a tragic end at the age of 62 in March 2012, when he was living as a recluse on a mere £67.50 per week.
This was in stark contrast to the life that seemed destined for Wilson when he clinched his first World Darts Championship in 1982. He secured another BDO world title seven years later and remained a formidable contender in the sport’s premier competition, reaching the quarter-final stage or beyond 13 times in as many appearances between 1979 and 1991.
