A film studio based in a former luxury mall on the Atlantic City Boardwalk has filed for bankruptcy protection, citing financial struggles after three years in business.
ACX1 Studios filed for Chapter 11 protection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New Jersey, according to a petition filed on Friday.
The company moved into the former Playground Pier at Caesar’s Casino Hotel in 2023, aiming to turn the largely vacant, 500,000‑square‑foot mall into a hub for film projects. Its plans called for repurposing empty stores, restaurants and bars to attract major movie productions to Atlantic City.
