Australia’s largest wild-caught prawn operation will close its doors after 60 years, impacting hundreds of workers and devastating a Queensland community.
A Raptis & Sons Group is expected to axe more than 200 jobs across South Australia and Queensland and begin selling off assets after administrators, appointed in March, were unable to find a buyer for the wholesale seafood business.
Hit by a failed banana prawn season and a 2024 price slump caused by oversupply, the company entered voluntary administration on March 6.
