More than 150 employees in the sock factory “March 8” in Subotica was left without work, but also without wages for August and September, after bankruptcy proceedings were opened against the company on October 1 due to permanent inability to pay, the Beta agency reported.
Workers were informed about their rights and next steps at a meeting with the bankruptcy administrator and representatives of the National Employment Service. Some of them signed the documents required to apply to the unemployment register.
Union Secretary Saša Antunović told the Beta agency that the workers were “outraged, surprised, shocked and let down”, and that the factory director did not appear at the meeting.
