German courts recorded a significant increase in both business and consumer insolvencies during the previous year, according to data from the Federal Statistical Office. The number of corporate insolvency applications filed in 2025 rose by 10.3 percent compared to the year before, reaching a total of 24,064 cases.
This continues an upward trend, following increases of more than 20 percent in each of the two preceding years. The last time the annual figure was higher was over a decade ago. The total creditor claims from these corporate insolvencies were approximately 47.9 billion euros, which represents a decrease from the previous year’s total of roughly 58.1 billion euros.
