Cathy Proctor and her sisters wanted to grow old together much the same way they grew up: In a shared home tucked away in rural Canada.
Along with a brother-in-law, they spent months planning how to transform the house they purchased in the Rocky Mountain foothills near Calgary into a co-operative-style living space, in need of custom appliances.
“A 27-inch microwave, a 36-inch stove, 42-inch refrigerator – that was all designed into the cabinetry that’s there,” said Ms. Proctor, 68. The family put down about a 50-per-cent deposit on $30,000-worth of kitchen hardware with scheduled delivery in May.
