Australia’s troubled recycling sector is facing another potentially devastating blow, with a major facility that processes 20,000 tonnes of plastic annually entering voluntary administration.
Dozens of jobs hang in the balance after it was announced this week that Recycling Plastics Australia had appointed voluntary administrators.
The company’s future is now uncertain — with administrators assessing whether it can be restructured, sold or forced to close — and comes two years after it received a $20 million federal government grant in 2024.
The funding was intended to support advanced recycling technology at the company’s Kilburn facility in Adelaide.
