BEIJING Chinas two-time Olympic table tennis champion Kong Linghui (picture) has been suspended as head coach of the national womens team, the countrys table tennis association said on its website, after it emerged he faces a lawsuit over a gambling debt.
According to a Hong Kong court writ, the 41-year-old Kong, who achieved legendary status in China for winning gold at the 1996 and 2000 Summer Games, and is nicknamed the ping-pong prince, faces a HK$2.55 million (S$453,500) lawsuit over a debt to the Marina Bay Sands (MBS) hotel in Singapore.
