BonCulina, a food service supplier with headquarters in Luxembourg, bought Colchester-based food manufacturer Anglia Crown in 2023.
It made frozen and chilled meals for hospitals and care homes.
On Monday, 150 employees at its site on Severalls Industrial estate were told in a letter they were being made redundant.
The letter said: “I am writing to confirm that, as a result of the company’s insolvency and in consideration of its financial position, the company is no longer in a position to continue your contract of employment and you are being made redundant on economic grounds.
“You should therefore regard your service as terminated with effect from 10 November 2025.”
