David Sharaz has been declared bankrupt by a Federal Court one week after his wife Brittany Higgins was dealt the same blow.
The pair were sued by Ms Higgins former boss Linda Reynolds over a series of social media posts that defamed the ex-senator.
The former politician launched bankruptcy action against them in the Federal Court of Australia to pursue damages awarded to her.
Ms Reynolds hopes to find out the truth about their financial affairs through a court appointed trustee and whether any money remains of a $2.4m compensation payment made to Ms Higgins by the Commonwealth following her rape allegation.
