According to a Bloomberg report, Spirit filed for bankruptcy last August — after previously seeking Chapter 11 protection in November 2024 — as part of an effort to restructure its finances and lower costs, with plans to emerge from Chapter 11 by spring or summer 2026.
Back in a March news release, Spirit’s president and chief executive officer announced plans to try to keep the airline functioning.
