A doctor defrauded more than 67,000 from the NHS and colleagues by claiming payment for overlapping locum shifts and falsifying cheques in order to pay off a gambling debt.
Dr Aled Jones, 39, was employed at the University Hospital of Wales (UHW) in Cardiff as a registrar when he carried out the frauds, which took place between 2016 and 2019.
During the course of his offending Jones submitted claims for payment from four Welsh health boards for locum shifts he had worked.
But many of these overlapped with each other so Jones would be working more than one non-residential on-call shift for two hospitals at at once, risking a situation where he might have been called out to two patients at the same time.
