The father of a boy allegedly kidnapped for ransom from his Gold Coast home on Friday has denied he has gambling or business debts.
The man, who cannot legally be identified, today told 9NEWS he had been prepared to pay the ransom demanded.
In China I already prepared the money to pay a ransom. I wanted to pay the ransom before the kidnapper hurt my son, he said.
The 12-year-old was taken from outside his Clear Island Waters home and driven as far as Grafton in New South Wales, where he was rescued after a tip-off from a member of the public.
