OAKLAND A Sacramento man has been hit with federal bank robbery charges, and authorities say he confessed to robbing banks as far back as 1995.

Clayon Quiz Smith, 44, faces 25 years in federal prison for a charge of armed bank robbery. Authorities linked him to two San Ramon robberies this year and say he told police he needed the money to pay a gambling debt, and that he had studied for years how to successfully rob banks and elude capture.
