A man in the Chinese province of Guangdong has been arrested after a brazen heist of four 700-year-old paintings to pay off a gambling debt.
According to a report from the Global Times, the gambler lost his life savings over the Chinese New Year holiday and then stole the centuries-old paintings worth a combined $145,860.
Witnesses at the ancestral hall identified him to police, the report said. Authorities later found him at his home with the paintings stashed in a chicken coop.
He later admitted to police that he took the artwork to pay off a gambling debt.
