Gareth Sowter, of Lower Road in Great Amwell, near Hertford, was sentenced to 26 months in prison when he appeared at the Old Bailey yesterday (March 26).
The 51-year-old was declared bankrupt in April 2021 after failing to pay more than £100,000 to St Edmund’s College and Prep School in Ware, the school his three sons had attended since 2012. Termly fees at the school range between £2,120 and £16,752.

Debt piled up between 2012 and 2019, with Sowler telling the school he would inherit money from his father which he would use to settle the debts.
He received £208,166 in December 2020 but did not use this to settle his debts of £106,933, instead transferring…
