John Barnes has been declared bankrupt after racking up debts of more than £1.5m.
The Liverpool and England great was hit by a bankruptcy order last week, having previously been banned as a company director for 3½ years.
As revealed by Telegraph Sport, HM Revenue & Customs lodged the latest in a long line of bankruptcy petitions against the 61-year-old on August 8.
