A more-than-two-decade tradition in the Parkway Pointe Shopping Center in Springfield is coming to an end with this week’s liquidation announcement from FAMILY CHRISTIAN STORES.
The not-for-profit cited changes in consumer book-buying habits and falling sales in the decision to liquidate the 85-year-old company by closing more than 240 stores in 36 states, including at 3425 Freedom Drive, in Parkway Pointe. Christian-themed merchandise sold by the Michigan retailer raises money for humanitarian aid through Family Christian Ministries, according to the company announcement.
