New Jersey Bike Shops Report Sales Drops of Up to 90% Under the State’s New E-Bike Laws

Back in March, New Jersey passed a law requiring every e-bike rider in the state to hold a license and every e-bike to be registered. Class 2 and Class 3 e-bikes also have to be insured. The law took effect on July 19th, and according to NJ.com, the shop owners it interviewed are reporting sales declines between 20 and 90%.
Mike Grotz, who owns Cyclesport in Park Ridge, put it plainly: “It has had a chilling effect on the legitimate e-bike industry. We sold over 50 Class 1 e-bikes last year, this year, a total of 4 e-bikes.” Scott Chambers of Zippy’s Bike in Wildwood said his…
