A Nottingham campaigner and former gambling addict has welcomed news that the Government will be getting tougher on fixed-odds betting terminals.
The high-stake, high-speed electronic games found in casinos and betting shops allow a stake of up to £100 every 20 seconds and have been called the crack cocaine of gambling. But ministers are now considering cutting this to between £50 and £2.
Ian Bartlett, of Beechdale, was so addicted to the gambling machines that he turned to crime and heavy debt to fund his obsession, but has since overcome this and thinks the new proposals are a positive step forward”.
