Ola to go for business restructuring to step-up focus on core-taxi service – Economic Times

BENGALURU: India’s largest cab aggregator Ola, after pulling the curtains on its online food and grocery delivery experiments, is restructuring its business to step up focus and investment into its core taxi service, according to multiple people aware of the matter.

Ola is racing to bolster its thinning lead over Uber as well as curb diverting much of the scarce money coming from investors into businesses and destinations not yet fundamental to its topline, such as its bus shuttle category and taxi services in small cities and towns. It also has to contend with the heavy discounting by Uber solely on its taxi service.

BENGALURU: Ola, after pulling the curtains on its online food and grocery delivery experiments, is restructuring its business to step up focus and investment into its core taxi service, according to multiple people aware of the matter.

Ola is racing to bolster its thinning lead over Uber as well as curb diverting much of investors’ money into businesses and destinations not yet fundamental to its top line such as its bus shuttle category and taxi services in small cities and towns.

“It’s better to be a leader in one category than to be second or third in multiple businesses,” said an investor in Ola, requesting anonymity. “Ola has a 15-20 per cent lead on Uber which is critical to maintain.”
