Rob Marshall felt a shimmy in his Cadillac as he and his wife, Maria, tooled north on the Garden State Parkway, returning one night from a jaunt to Harrahs in Atlantic City.
Ten miles short of their Toms River home, Marshall slid the Caddy into the Oyster Creek picnic area, a wooded bulge between the north- and southbound lanes near the Barnegat tolls.
It was 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 7, 1984.
The Marshalls three sons were back at school that week the youngest in junior high, the two oldest in college. As they periodically did, the blackjack junkies finished their parenting that evening, then dressed for dinner and dashed 40 miles down the parkway to Harrahs for an 8:30 reservation.
