In shock news for Australia’s music community, the Sydney-based board of The Song Company has announced that it will appoint a liquidator, bringing to an end more than 40 years of activity by the nation’s leading professional vocal ensemble.
The announcement comes only weeks after the ensemble appeared in Canberra. On May 23, under the baton of its former long-time artistic director Roland Peelman, The Song Company performed Heinrich Schütz’s Der Schwanengesang at St Paul’s Cathedral, Manuka. Reviewing the concert for CityNews, Graham McDonald praised its “moments of spine-tingling beauty”.
