At a time when space launch capacity is being stretched thin, a UK spaceport company is to be liquidated. The BBC reported on 3rd June that Sutherland Spaceport Ltd, a subsidiary of failed rocketeer Orbex, is to have its assets sold off.
SSL’s assets include permission to build a spaceport near the village of Tongue in the Highlands. Contracts for land use had been settled between Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the local crofters. While the BBC states that no major work had been done by SSL, Orbex had tried in years past to show that something had been done, mostly in roadwork.
