A man who fatally stabbed his friend in the neck and set his body and car on fire in suburban Melbourne nearly 10 years ago is due to be sentenced on Thursday.
Christopher John Lavery, 31, was found guilty in August of murdering 24-year-old James Russouw in March 2008.
Lavery still maintains his innocence, standing by his alibi he was at the cinema watching “Rambo” with one of his friends at the time Mr Russouw was killed.
After Victoria Police advertised a $1 million reward in March last year for information leading to a conviction, that friend came forward to police.
He had previously backed up Lavery’s alibi, but he now admitted the killer had left the film part way through.
