A man accused of murdering a cannabis dealer set up an alibi with a friend by going to the cinema to watch a Rambo film, a Melbourne court has heard.
Christopher Lavery, 31, has been charged with murdering James Russouw, 24, by stabbing him in the neck and setting his body and car on fire in Burwood East Reserve in 2008.
According to court documents, the following day, investigators searched Mr Russouw’s bedroom at his parents’ house and found $60,000 in cash.
A man identified only as Witness A told Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday he was paid by Lavery to go to the movies on the day of the killing.
Lavery has denied involvement in the death, having told investigators he was at the cinema at the time.
