More British households than ever are defaulting on their energy bills, with new figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showing just how tough things are right now. Last month (April), more than 2.7 per cent of gas and electricity direct debits failed because there wasn’t enough money in people’s accounts.

That’s the highest rate since records began in 2019 – and three times higher than before the energy crisis hit. At the same time, more people are missing loan repayments, often taken out to cover everyday costs.

With an agreement in place for Kingswood’s private equity backer, HSQ Investments, to take over the company due to its debt levels, questions are being reignited about the risks in the adviser consolidator model — particularly those backed by private equity.

HSQ first invested in Kingswood in 2019, providing up to £80mn in growth equity to support the firm’s ambition of becoming “the leading UK advice-led wealth management consolidator”.

Since then, Kingswood has made 19 acquisitions, funded through HSQ’s equity and debt from a major asset manager. By June 2024, Kingswood’s assets under advice and management had grown to £12.9bn (up from £2.5bn in 2019), with revenues rising from £10.1mn to £86.2mn

He reached 1,000 games while playing for the Colorado Avalanche in 2022 and became just the 19th player to win the Stanley Cup for the first time after hitting the milestone later that year.

Johnson has earned almost $55million over his long career with a seven-year, $30million deal from the Blue Jackets that was signed in 2011 providing him with a life-changing opportunity.

But just three…

A young professional in her twenties, Shweta (name changed), fell into the world of online money games after seeing an advertisement on social media. What started as casual gaming escalated into an addiction that led her to borrow heavily, attempt suicide, and undergo weeks of recovery at a Mumbai hospital, a TOI report by Nitasha Natu stated. Her case sheds light on the growing concerns around online casino gaming in India.

The slippery start into online gambling

Shweta began playing online casino games last year, attracted by flashy social media ads offering slots, sports betting, and live dealer games. With just ₹5,000, she won ₹2 lakh in her early days of gaming. “I remember spending just Rs 5,000 and winning as much as Rs 2…

Peter Stevens Motorcycles

The retail arm of Peter Stevens Motorcycles, encompassing the Peter Stevens dealership network and Harley Heaven operations, has entered voluntary administration.

This retail division was formally separated from Peter Stevens Importers in January 2023, when Jessica Chiodo-Reidy, daughter of Vince Chiodo, assumed full ownership and operational control.

The retail business includes the customer-facing dealership network and also holds the Australian distribution rights for Zero Motorcycles.

It is important to stress that this retail group operates entirely independently of Peter Stevens Importers—the wholesale entity responsible for the import and distribution of…

A Nottinghamshire care home that was forced shut by health inspectors has been placed into liquidation owing more than £95,000. Residents were moved out of The Firs Residential Care Home on Old Epperstone Road in Lowdham on April 4 following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The CQC, which regulates health and adult social care in England, suspended the registration of the provider and rehoused all 11 of its residents after it was inspected on April 1 and 2. Bosses at the care home were given three months to make improvements and avoid being closed for good, but documents filed with the London Gazette show the business has now been put into liquidation – seemingly signalling the home’s permanent closure.

Liquidation is…
