A former pub owner who failed to disclose his bankruptcy when he applied for Covid support funds has been handed a suspended sentence.
Gary Wright did not inform the bank that he was bankrupt when he obtained a £25,000 Bounce Back Loan in the summer of 2020. The 46-year-old made the application on behalf of the Talbot Ale House on Duke Street in St Helens town centre, the pub he ran before his bankruptcy earlier that year.
Talbot Ale House ceased trading in September 2019, with Wright was declared bankrupt in February 2020 due to debts owed to a major utility company. Despite this, Wright applied for a £25,000 Bounce Back Loan in June 2020, claiming the turnover of the pub was £400,000.
Wright remains an undischarged…

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), this led to an overcrowded market of more than 500 ventures, many lacking core technology, supply chains, or scale.
From 2020 onwards, the Chinese government began phasing out its EV subsidy program. This policy shift came just as the country entered a price war, led by aggressive pricing from giants like BYD and Tesla. The combination of reduced state support and brutal price competition proved fatal for many underfunded startups.

In a landmark judgment dated 2nd May 2025, the Supreme Court of India disposed of an appeal filed in 2020 concerning the resolution of Bhushan Power and Steel Ltd. (BPSL). The judgment is detailed, incisive, and beyond reproach by any legal standard. It lays bare a series of grave illegalities and lapses, some deliberate and collusive, in the approval and implementation of the company’s resolution plan.
Considering the illegalities, the Court set aside the resolution plan approved by the Committee of Creditors (CoC) and the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in 2019, subsequently affirmed by the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT). Invoking its extraordinary powers under Article 142 of the Constitution, the…
