When a dad has a gambling addiction, it not only exhausts his bank accounts but also affects his family, other relationships, and mental health.

According to the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), an estimated five million Americans struggle with compulsive gambling, yet only about 8% seek help.

That leaves millions of families dealing with missed mortgage payments, secret credit card debt, and drained savings when gambling turns into a problem.

So, who really pays the price? The spouse? The kids? Taxpayers? Let’s find out.

Consumer credit card debt hit a record high at the end of 2024, passing $1.2 trillion for the first time in history. The climbing debt figures make sense in the context of the final months of 2024. Inflation rose for three straight months to end the year and holiday spending was up 4% year-over-year, according to the National Retail Federation. Also, credit card interest rates remained…

The Amendment applies to all proceedings pending as of its effective date, as well as to those initiated thereafter, with the sole exception of the provisions related to the new tax settlements, which apply only to proposals submitted after the Amendment’s effective date.

Below is an overview of the key changes introduced by the Amendment.

General principles, crisis detection

The Amendment:

  • Extends the duty of fairness and good faith, already imposed on the debtor and creditors, to all “interested parties” involved in the restructuring;
  • Imposes on the statutory auditors and/or auditors (revisore legale) the obligation to report the existence of conditions of crisis or insolvency that may trigger access to negotiated…

Romania’s construction market is facing big problems: the volume of work fell by almost 6% last year and the number of insolvencies topped 1,500 companies. The current challenges and possible solutions to overcome them were discussed and analyzed during the second edition of FORECAST Brunch, an event recently organized by the platform Vindem-Ieftin.ro, which brought together major players in this sector.

“The chaotic interventions of the authorities are discouraging construction contractors, already tried and tested by the materials crisis, the bottlenecks on the transport routes and the toxic taxes hidden in the Green Deal. It is not normal for the state to delay payments for…

This is because, with the government converting spectrum dues worth 36,950 crore, the telecom operator would now have to pay a total of over 66% less in statutory dues over the next three years after the expiry of the current moratorium later this year. However, analysts said the company must meet a yearly 43,000 crore payment obligation (spectrum and adjusted gross revenue dues) to the government over FY28-31.

Without equity conversion, Vodafone Idea’s payable spectrum dues to the government would have been 11,000 crore for FY26. For FY27 and FY28 each, the spectrum-related outgo would have been 25,000 crore.

However, with the conversion, the company’s dues…
