Inflation may be easing but Australians are still acutely feeling the effects of higher prices, with a substantial increase in people seeking financial help.
More than 169,000 people sought help from the National Debt Helpline in 2024 – a 12 per cent increase on the previous year.
The increase showed how difficult it was for many Australians to get by at the moment, said Peter Gartlan, co-CEO of Financial Counselling Australia, which co-ordinates the helpline service.
“Cost-of-living pressures are mounting and having a significant impact on the financial well-being of many thousands of Australians,” he said.
Chicago, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Illinois is touting a growing amount of medical debt relief in the state. The Illinois Medical Debt Relief Program has abolished more than 220-million-dollars in medical debt for another 170-thousand individuals statewide.
The average amount of debt abolished per person during this round is nearly 13-hundred-dollars. That brings the program’s total erased debt to more than 345-million-dollars for nearly 270-thousand Illinois residents.

The Longniddry Christian Aid Committee hosted Douglas Alexander, Lothian East MP, and Martin Whitfield, South Scotland MSP, at their ‘Breaking Bread’ event at Longniddry Parish Church.
