It can take just one win to kickstart a gambling habit.

Will Hinman’s came as a college student in the early ’90s, when he and his girlfriend at the time caught a New York Giants game. A buddy had connected Hinman with a bookie, and raising the stakes was sure to make the outing more interesting for the lifelong Cowboys fan.

Hinman says his relatively modest wins that night were the start of a decades-long career as an avid gambler. A game wasn’t worth watching if there wasn’t money on it.

The letter — whose signatories include the Sisters of Mercy; the Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns; Pax Christi USA; and Network — asks Biden to support a new issuance of Special Drawing Rights, or SDRs, which are a reserve asset created by the International Monetary Fund.

The assets can be exchanged for hard currency, or be used to pay off debts, or can keep on countries’ balance sheets, helping them…

Legislation authored by experts from the University of Warwick to help resolve the debt crisis in developing countries has been scheduled for debate in Parliament.

Dr Stephen Connelly and Professor Celine Tan from Warwick Law School, along with Dr Karina Patrício Ferreira Lima from the University of Leeds’s School of Law, have drafted the proposed legislation, named the Debt Relief (Developing Countries) Bill.

The proposed laws put forward legal measures to limit recoverable bills that developing countries owe private creditors.

Such a move would support global efforts to eliminate the debt crisis in developing countries by allowing these nations to advance economically.

The bill, scheduled for a second reading in spring 2025, aims…
