SINGAPORE – Two directors of a private education company, who were declared bankrupt after they failed to pay millions to creditors stemming from personal guarantees for the firm’s loans, are accusing their creditors of being in a conspiracy to ruin them.
In their counterclaims, Mr Balbeer Singh Mangat and his wife Sirgit Gill are accusing Mr Jagdish Murli Chanrai, a high-net-worth individual and principal of the Kewalram Chanrai Group, of being the mastermind behind the alleged conspiracy which saw them taking up loans under onerous terms.

The name of the founder of Hin Leong Trading Pte. and his children Lim Huey Ching and Lim Chee Meng were listed as having been issued a bankruptcy order on December 19, the government gazette showed. The younger Lims were both directors at the company.
Leow Quek Shiong and Seah Roh Lin of BDO Advisory Pte. Ltd. are the trustees, according to the gazette.
At its peak, Hin Leong traded a range of oil products, made lubricants and operated loading terminals and storage facilities. But the downfall of the man widely known as OK Lim came in 2020, as Covid-19 sent oil prices into free fall.

Preserve Health Pty Ltd appointed liquidators on Monday, bringing a seven-year journey to an end for its “sports hydration system” PREPD.
Anthony Phillips from Heard Phillips Lieberenz was appointed liquidator of the Tonsley Innovation Centre-based company after shareholders voted in favour of a voluntary windup.
The company was solvent at the time of liquidation and issued a statement noting the decision to wind the business up was “due to the increasingly difficult financial climate and the inability to secure necessary capital for continued operations”.

Jay Leno has denied rumours that he has a gambling debt and he is “being beaten up by the mob”.
It comes after the former Tonight Show host was recently seen wearing an eye patch following an incident which left him with a black eye, bruised face and bandaged wrist.
According to Leno, at the time, he fell after walking down a hill to a restaurant near his hotel.
