The far-right activist Tommy Robinson is being pursued for an estimated £2m by creditors after he claimed bankruptcy during a high court libel trial.

The English Defence League founder, whose real name is Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon, declared himself bankrupt in a high court trial last year in which he was ordered to pay £100,000 in libel damages to a Syrian schoolboy he defamed online.

In March Robinson will be officially discharged from bankruptcy, meaning he no longer has to pay back any debts covered by the filing – including the six-figure legal fees.

It emerged on Thursday that creditors have asked an independent insolvency expert to investigate whether Robinson’s claim is genuine or whether he is “hiding” assets to…

Recognising the differences between micro, small and medium enterprises and larger corporates, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) has proposed that any firm undergoing insolvency proceedings should disclose its status.

It has also proposed that in case available documents with the Resolution Professional, indicates that the corporate debtor falls within the category of MSME, he or she…

A family and wellbeing hub has opened in a part of Plymouth to support residents in need, the city council has said.

Southway Family and Wellbeing Hub opened on Thursday and offers advice on debt, housing, careers and also help for families.

Jemima Laing, deputy leader of Plymouth City Council and cabinet member for children’s social care, said: “It works as a one stop shop for people in the local area who might need advice or support.”

She said it was the eighth wellbeing hub and the ninth family hub to open in the city.

Jakarta (ANTARA) –
Indonesia’s debt is so far in line to support national economic development, according to deputy for macro economy and finance coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Ferry Irawan.

Debt management is continuing to be carried out carefully and measurably by maintaining the optimal interest rate, currency, liquidity, and maturity risks so that the state budget can remain healthy, credible, and sustainable.

“Government carries out funding through debts to meet the state budget funding needs when state revenue is not yet fully able to fund all state spending or when investment funding is needed,” Irawan said in a statement released by the ministry on Saturday.

During the 2014–2019 period,…

Debt remains one of the biggest single issues that is brought to the Scottish CAB network, second only to social security benefits (though the two are often inter-linked).

The good news is that we really can help people in debt. There are various things we can do: very often creditors are actually willing to talk about finding solutions to the problem, but that of course requires the person in debt to contact them and so many people are frightened to do this and can’t face it or perhaps don’t know how to do it, so the debt remains unpaid and the interest spirals.

MATRICS equips advisers with the skills to contact the creditor on the client’s behalf and encourage a pragmatic engagement between them to reach an outcome…

The Supreme Court has declined to halt the operations of the Committee of Creditors (CoC) involved in the insolvency resolution process of the Ed-tech firm Byju’s. The CoC represents the creditors of a company during bankruptcy or insolvency proceedings.

The apex court had previously reinstated the insolvency process against Byju’s on August 14, overturning an August 2 decision by the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) that had permitted the settlement of Byju’s approximately INR 158.9 crore debt with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

A Bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, alongside Justices…

The Dutch city of Arnhem is going to cancel the debts of some of the poorest families in the Netherlands in an attempt to break a health-crushing downward spiral and give people a fresh start.

Earlier this month, municipal officials began knocking on doors in the Immerloo II district, one of the poorest neighbourhoods in the Netherlands, offering to pay off problem debts.

At first, people were naturally suspicious, according to Mark Lauriks, the councillor in charge of social security at Arnhem, who is leading the scheme. Immerloo II residents were used to debt collectors and wary of the government, he said. But that soon changed when the details – total debt forgiveness with no strings attached – emerged in the media. “With the…

On the verge of its 25th anniversary, The Baltic Course leaves business media market30.12.2020

What an irony of the destiny that in the year of its 25th anniversary an international magazine The Baltic Course is leaving the market of mass media. A website about business and analytical news of Baltic States shall remain in the World Wide Web, but starting from 1 January 2021 it will no longer add new articles. This is a final decision. This is not a bankruptcy, our small firm doesn’t have a single debt, not even to the state.
