Ippei Mizuhara, the Japanese-language interpreter who formerly worked closely with Los Angeles Angels and Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani and is accused of stealing $16m to cover gambling debt, appeared in federal court on Friday (12 April) and was released on $25,000 bond.
According to a tweet from The Athletic’s Sam Blum, Mizuhara was shackled entering court.

A 16-year-old boy, who allegedly strangled a nine-year-old girl to death at her house and then tried to set her body ablaze in a gruesome crime in Gurugram on Monday, confessed that he planned to steal jewellery from the victim’s house in order to pay off debts he incurred in online gambling, but committed the murder in the “spur of the moment” after the victim caught him stealing and raised an alarm, police said on Tuesday.

Local governments in the United Kingdom went into panic mode on Wednesday after Birmingham City Council effectively declared itself bankrupt. Authorities warned that more councils across the UK could declare themselves in financial dire straits.

Swedish corporate group Fragbite Group has declared bankruptcy for Alara Prime developer Fall Damage.
While a publishing for the game is still being determined, the process has created “an unsustainable financial situation” for its creator. The apparently “not temporary” bankruptcy was further determined by an inability to pay off debts by their due date.
Impact-wise, the bankruptcy is said to be valued at SEK 39.0 million (or $3.63 million) for Fragbite. Both it and subsidiaries under its umbrella are said to “continue operations without interruption.”
