The basketball world was rocked earlier this year by the news that Jontay Porter, the brother of Denver Nuggets star Michael Porter Jr. and a member of the Toronto Raptors on a two-way contract, would receive a lifetime ban from the NBA for violating the league’s gambling rules. There were plenty of details that the league announced following its investigation into the allegations, and on Tuesday, we learned a bit more thanks to a criminal complaint that was filed in federal court in Brooklyn against a man named Long Phi Pham.

You can read the whole thing here, but while Porter’s name does not come up — there is only a reference to “Player 1” — all the events in here match up with the two games that came under scrutiny….

The House of Representatives Committee on Banking and Other Ancillary Institutions has called for the creation of a judicial task force specifically dedicated to the trial of cases involving the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria.

This move is intended to expedite the resolution of AMCON cases, many of which involve significant financial recoveries for the government.

The taskforce aims to ensure that 350 debtors, representing over 80 per cent of AMCON’s total loan accounts, fulfil their financial obligations and contribute to the country’s economic recovery.

The Committee Chairman, Eze Nwachukwu stated this on Sunday, during an interview at the ongoing 2024 Retreat of the House…

Lusix, Benny Landa’s synthetic diamond company, is on the verge of filing for insolvency. The company informed its creditors of its intention to do so but did not specify the exact timing. Calcalist has also learned that the company informed its shareholders last week that it urgently needs to raise $15 million for ongoing operations and that without this capital infusion it would become insolvent. Despite some investors considering injecting additional funds, this is not believed to have occurred.

Lusix, like the entire market, has suffered from a steep drop in the prices of synthetic diamond raw materials. The price drop from $300 to $30 per carat over several years has led to the closure of several companies worldwide that struggled…

Mark Stevens of Kurraba Point, NSW, today appeared at the Downing Center Local Court charged with dishonestly causing a financial disadvantage by deception contrary to section 192E(1)(b) of the Crimes Act 1900 (NSW).

Following an ASIC investigation, it is alleged that between 3 June 2016 and 10 June 2016, Mr Stevens dishonestly caused $110,000 payable to his company MWCLMS Pty Ltd (In Liquidation) to be redirected to Australasian Justice Services Pty Ltd (In Liquidation).

The scale of harm caused by gambling in Great Britain could be eight times higher than thought, according to the largest ever survey of the impact of the industry, piling pressure on ministers to enact promised gambling reforms.

An estimated 2.5% of adults have struggled with “problem gambling”, according to the Gambling Survey for Great Britain (GSGB), which questioned almost 10,000 people.

This would equate to 1.3 million problem gamblers, though the report’s authors cautioned there was a risk that the data could be an overestimate.

Previous surveys, which were conducted by phone, had put the figure for problem gambling as low as 0.3%. It was acknowledged at the time that the methodology meant this was likely to be an…
