Sunshine Private Hospital in St Albans is cancelling surgeries and relocating patients as it is placed into voluntary administration.

First on ABC Radio Melbourne Drive, administrators say there was no funding available to continue operating the hospital, which only opened last year.

Dr Gareth Weston, a Monash IVF Fertility Specialist who works at Sunshine Private, told Ali Moore workers only received 12 hours notice about the closure.

Dr Weston says the hospital was “over ambitious” in the “scale and speed” at which they built the hospital up.

Anyone with questions can call Wexted, the administrators, on (02) 9210 1700.

After yesterday’s open letter to the industry, Starleaton has provided further background on its business’ past, present, and future on the company’s website.

“After navigating a challenging 2023, Starleaton, a leading wide-format provider, has successfully avoided liquidation, marking a pivotal moment with the implementation of a DOCA (deed of company arrangement). This achievement signals a profound turnaround for the company,” the company said in a statement published on the Starleaton website.

Bonza has appointed a voluntary administrator to run the discount regional airline after the company behind its aircraft provider repossessed its planes in Australia leaving thousands of passengers stranded on Tuesday.

Planes registered to Bonza remain grounded at the Sunshine Coast, Melbourne and the Gold Coast after a former investment partner of the discount airline’s private equity owner, 777 Partners, suddenly repossessed them.

Bonza’s aircraft have been seized by AIP Capital, an investment house owned by the parent of 777 Partners, ACAP, to recoup money owed to investors, sources close to the matter said. 777 Partners originally bought the aircraft and issued long-term leases to Bonza during COVID-19.

AIP confirmed the aircraft had been transferred to a new vehicle, Phoenix Aviation Capital, which is owned by insurance giant ACAP, on April 9.

AIP has since moved to take possession of three Bonza aircraft to send them back to Canada, having already seized one of its 737 Max-8s, named Bruce, earlier this week.

777 Partners is being advised by restructuring firm KordaMentha, which declined to comment. The appointment of KordaMentha was first reported by the…

A new national study provides the best evidence to date that generous unemployment insurance benefits during the COVID-19 pandemic helped reduce reliance on high-cost credit use.

Researchers found that lower-income residents of states with more generous benefits were significantly less likely than those living in less-generous states to take out new credit cards, personal finance loans and payday loans or other alternative financial…

Budget airline Bonza has entered voluntary administration after it left hundreds of travellers stranded at major airports across the country.
On Tuesday morning, Bonza passengers departing the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Melbourne and Avalon arrived to find their flights cancelled.
Bonza CEO Tim Jordan said the move was “temporary” and discussions were “underway regarding the ongoing viability of the business”.

But it emerged on Tuesday afternoon that external administrators Hall Chadwick had been appointed, according to documents filed with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.

Sunshine Coast airport has 33 Bonza departing flights and 33 incoming flights scheduled for the next seven days.

Flights scheduled for tomorrow include departures to Townsville, Cairns, Albury, Melbourne, and Darwin; and arrivals from Cairns, Townsville, Albury, and Melbourne.

Some customers are reporting that they were still able to check in for tomorrow’s Sunshine Coast to Townsville flight.

The airport’s website lists these flights as ‘on time’ or ‘scheduled’.

But a spokesperson said they were yet to hear from Bonza as to whether those flights were going ahead.

“We haven’t received any advice from Bonza,” Ethan Clissold said.

“Normally, we’d have a bit of back and forth about those sorts of things (flight…

Fledgling budget airline Bonza Aviation yesterday entered voluntary administration after halting all flights on Monday.

Bonza Airlines first launched in 2021 and has since transported 750,000 passengers across Australia in the 15 months since it took to the air. It now follows in the footsteps of many failed low-cost Australian airlines before it, including Tigerair Australia, AirAsia, and Air Australia.

The airline has appointed Richard Albarran, Kathleen Vouris, Brent Kijurina, and Cameron Shaw appointed as Administrators of the company, with an independent insolvency practitioner to take control of the company during which creditors’ claims are put on hold.

The company’s fleet will remain grounded pending discussions with…

As many as 360 staff at Rex Airlines have been sacked already and hundreds more are on the chopping block after administrators were called in to run the embattled carrier, with remaining staff told they may not get paid until a new buyer is found.

It comes amid speculation that Asia-based private equity firm PAG, which funded Rex’s $150m expansion to jet operations, was considering becoming the airline’s new owner out of administration.

Hours after Ernst & Young announced that all Rex Boeing 737 flights between capital cities were grounded, employees at the nation’s third-largest airline were told those flights would cease to operate, according to the Transport Workers Union (TWU).

Employees were also told that winding up Rex’s jet…

Cycling event organiser Hotchillee has announced that it will be entering liquidation in the coming weeks, citing financial difficulties in recent years as the largest contributor.

In a statement posted on the company’s website, founder Sven Thiel said: “Despite our best efforts, the combination of internal matters, ongoing financial challenges following Covid-19 and the Brexit referendum, without sufficient capital injection to continue trading, the director has sought for advice in dealing with the company’s affairs.

“After 20 extraordinary years, this is a devastating blow to all of us at Hotchillee, as well as to our loyal community and partners.”

Croydon council has declared effective bankruptcy for the third time in two years, saying it faces an “existential question” after collapsing under the weight of a “toxic debt burden” running to more than a billion pounds.

In the latest sign of the continuing financial storm raging through local government, the south London authority said it would be unable to balance its books after April, and signalled a fresh round of brutal cuts to services and job losses.

It has asked ministers to write off £1.3bn of debts, including £500m run up through a series of ill-fated commercial investments, arguing the sheer scale of Croydon’s crisis required an unprecedented financial bailout from the government.

A paper to the council’s…
