Russia’s economy appears resilient after two years of war with Ukraine, but a rising number of companies in the country are in trouble.

The number of companies in Russia that have gone bankrupt has soared in the first two months of 2024, Russian business daily Kommersant reported on Thursday.

In January, 571 companies in Russia declared bankruptcy — a rise of 57% from 364 a year ago, Kommersant reported, citing data from the federal register for bankruptcy.

Rex Airlines has gone into voluntary administration with flights between major airports cancelled.

The carrier has grounded all its Boeing 737 jets, with Virgin Australia allowing REX customers on those flights to transfer to their services free of charge. Affected customers are being contacted directly by REX.

Regional Saab 340 flights in areas including Merimbula and Moruya are currently unaffected and will continue to operate.

Katie Price has said she missed a court case where she was declared bankrupt for the second time due to “dealing with serious stuff.”

The former glamour model and TV personality, 45, was declared bankrupt on Monday by a judge at the Insolvency and Companies Court, and the hearing was told she did not respond to HMRC over the debt.

She owes £761,994.05 to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), the London court was told.

Price was previously declared bankrupt in 2019.

She said that she did not find out about Monday’s ruling until she was on the Daily Mail’s Straight To The Comments! podcast.
