NEW DELHI: Thirty-five-year-old Harish worked at a high-end hotel by day but turned a chain snatcher by night. After several complaints of chain snatchings in south Delhi in recent days, police scanned CCTV footage and in one clip identified the running Harish. Police said that despite a decent income, the man had taken to crime to pay off gambling debts. The cops also arrested a jeweller who was purchasing the stolen items from Harish.
Police said that Harish alias Monu, a graduate in hotel management, was debt-ridden following losses in online gambling. They recovered four gold chains, some other jewellery items and four phones along with a country-made pistol with which Harish threatened his targets. Police said Harishs modus operandi …

Beijing may initiate a managed debt restructuring of a troubled property developer in the coming week, followed by policy easing in October to contain spillover to the broader economy, according to Morgan Stanley economists.
Regulators have had a mechanism to deal with defaults of property developers and reduce systemic risk, economists including Robin Xing wrote in a note Tuesday. If these actions are delayed, there could be a one percentage point impact on Chinas gross domestic product growth in the fourth quarter, warranting bigger stimulus in 2022, they added.
Others including Citigroup Inc. are expecting Beijing to help out China Evergrande Group, the worlds most indebted developer, as it missed interest payments due Monday …

More than 30,000 ACT health members left in limbo when their provider entered administration may have been given a reprieve after administrators found new operators courtesy of a court granting them more time. The nation’s peak medical body welcomed the news about the National Health Co-op (NHC), but it said the case should prompt the ACT government, who along with the federal government funded NHC, to help find more innovative ways to address underlying issues impacting the territory’s GPs and bulk billing situation. The not-for-profit and member-owned NHC, which opened its doors in 2010 and is now estimated to have 14 per cent of all bulk-billed GP appointments, entered voluntary administration in June. The organisation said the end …

But the Blues title-winning captain was in the midst of a gambling hell when he delivered a legendary display in a 5-0 win at Millwall, as his team stormed to the Premier League.
And that led to Pompey boss Harry Redknapp stuffing 30,000 in cash down his trousers during the game at The Den, for Merson to settle a debt.
Redknapps men went to south east London with their title charge at full throttle in March 2003, and then executed a demolition job on the Lions.
