Insolvency measures supporting businesses during the pandemic and helping them recover, are set to be extended till the end of June 2021.
The measures were introduced in the Corporate Insolvency and Governance Act in March 2020, including protecting businesses from aggressive creditor enforcement and removing personal liability on company directors, and have been previously extended on a number of occasions.
The measures being extended till the end of June 2021:
- Statutory demands and winding-up petitions will continue to be restricted to protect companies from creditor enforcement action due to debts related to coronavirus (COVID-19).

A crop-sitter caught with more than 180kg of cannabis at a Cobram house has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison.
Khanh Quoc Nguyen, 43, pleaded guilty in the County Court to cultivating a commercial quantity of cannabis between May 19 and August 19 last year.
Police found 180 plants weighing 49.5kg, along with 130.6kg of dry harvested cannabis, after executing a warrant on the Boorin St house on August 18, 2020.
This is more than seven times what is considered a commercial quantity.
A Vietnamese man, Nguyen, who is not lawfully in Australia, was found hiding in a bush when police arrived, while a co-accused fractured both his legs after attempting to jump from the roof of the house to a neighbouring property.

The hospitality group founded by former Australian rugby player George Gregan and his ex-wife Erica Gregan has been placed into administration, largely driven by theend of JobKeeperand leasing protections.
Following the appointment of SV Partners director Ian Purchas as administrator late on Friday, GG Leasing closed two of its nine outlets and reduced the number of its employees from 65 to 55.
The hospitality group operates the Sydney Opera House Green Room, GG Espresso, The George Bar and Bistro, and Eagle Lane Bistro among others.

The Lithgow Aged Care Home, 140km west of Sydney, which houses 73 residents and employs more than 120 staff, has gone into voluntary administration after losing its accreditation by failing to meet 38 of 42 industry standards.
We reported here that the aged care home appealed the ruling, which leaves residents with the prospect of finding a new home.
Ernst & Young have been hired to oversee and address solvency concerns and make sure residents receive the correct care while assessing the possibility of selling the home to another provider.

Last week, the Department of Education announced a change that waslargely summarized as the cancellation of $1 billion in student loan debt. The announcement garnered attention because of the Biden administrations past discussion of student debt forgiveness.
