Around one in five prisoners is involved in gambling, especially sports betting, according to the first survey of its kind.

The most common way to raise stakes and settle debts was via purchases of food or vapes on the canteen, although 11 prisoners in the survey said they were aware of sums being p…

LONDON (Reuters) – The Paris Club of international creditors said on Monday it had accepted a request from Kenya for a debt-servicing suspension from January to the end of June.

Kenya is committed to devote the resources freed by this initiative to increase spending in order to mitigate the health, economic and social impact of the COVID19-crisis, the Paris Club said in a statement on its website.

Kenya is also committed to seeking from other bilateral official creditors debt-servicing treatment in line with the agreed terms of the Debt Service Suspension Initiative (DSSI) of the G20 group of rich nations and big emerging powers, the creditors added in their statement.

Kenya changed its mind about the G20 coronavir…

In this article, Christophe Vandendorpe and John Tan, who are restructuring and liquidation practitioners at EY Luxembourgs Reshaping Results team, answer a question often asked by businesses: how to preserve value in a distressed situation?

My business is failing due to the current situation what can I do?

Applying for bankruptcy is a last resort as that doesnt necessarily maximise value for your shareholders and creditors. If your business remains viable long-term, and if you have the support from a majority of existing creditors, you could consider a debt restructuring exercise in Luxembourg.

    What is the…

GJES London Ltd, an electrical contracting company, was incorporated in October 2011 and Grzegorz Marcin Jarnot (47), from Worcester Park, Surrey, became the sole director on the same day.

The company traded for over 7 years until GJES London went into Creditors voluntary liquidation in April 2019 as it was unable to pay its debts.

GJES Londons insolvency triggered an investigation by the Insolvency Service into Grzegorz Jarnots conduct as a director.

Investigators found that from November 2017 to April 2019 more than 952,000 had been paid into GJES Londons bank account, with almost 958,000 paid out.

Grzegorz Jarnot, however, failed to provide any accounting records to prove whether the bank deposits accounted for all GJES Londons …

We have only just overcome the liquidity phase of the crisis in countries that are now relaxing restrictions. In many others, the health crisis is still acute. And the epidemic could flare up again anywhere, the general manager, Agustin Carstens, of Bank for International Settlements (BIS) acknowledged in late June whilst discussing the Banks 2020 Annual Economic Report. Importantly, the shock to solvency is still to be fully felt. Business insolvencies and personal hardship may well increase.

There has been much optimism in recent months regarding the prospects of a global recovery from the coronavirus. The recent announcements of vaccines with high levels of efficacy from the likes of Pfizer and Moderna have certainly raised hopes of …

The National Council unanimously voted on a bill that will allow the SBM to collect debts from its customers. The purpose of Bill 1019 is to put an end to the legal exception of gambling debts with regard to casinos, regardless of the date of the debt and even if the debt was amassed with a subsidiary company of the gaming house.

The new bill will allow the Socit des Bains de Mer to act in order to obtain both repayment of faulty checks issued by a player in return for casino chips and for the reimbursement of any advances made by the group.

According to the National Council, the bill puts an end to any former uncertainty in the matter, and amends Article 1804, which did not allow for any action against players who did not pay their deb…
